Skateboard brand Fucking Awesome has announced plans to reissue an iconic deck featuring Chloë Sevigny’s highschool portrait, an item first released in 2014. The deck not only encapsulated an era, but also recognizes Sevigny’s part in shaping New York’s downtown culture.
Reflecting on the origins of the deck in an exchange with Interview, Sevigny said, “A decade ago, my dear friend William ‘Bill’ Strobeck, renowned for his work on Supreme videos and the owner of skate company Violet, approached longtime acquaintances [and founders of Fucking Awesome] Jason Dill and Mike Piscitelli. He suggested, ‘You guys are crafting these incredible school photo boards; you should create one featuring Chloë. Her senior portrait is simply remarkable.'”
The result was a deck and t-shirts adorned with her portrait against a pink background, an enthusiastic effort to inject a dose of bubblegum pink into the predominantly masculine skate scene. These items quickly became sought-after collector’s pieces.
In addition to the deck, which has been updated with a pink glitter backgroud, the re-release also incorporates women’s clothing, including polo shirts, pleated mini skirts, t-shirts, tap shorts, socks, knitwear, and a revamped version of the pink deck, featuring a dazzling pink glitter background.
Fucking Awesome and Sevigny’s collaboration launches on September 6, 2023 at the brand’s stores in Los Angeles and New York and on faworldentertainment.com.
