The New York Liberty made history, winning their first WNBA championship in 28 years with an overtime victory over the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5.Jonquel Jones led the charge earning Finals MVP honors for her performance.
Founded in 1997 as one of the WNBA’s original eight franchises, the Liberty represent New York City from their home base in Brooklyn.
To celebrate the long-awaited victory, New York City will host a ticker-tape parade through the iconic Canyon of Heroes.In addition to the parade, five municipal buildings will light up in the team’s signature seafoam color on Monday night. The illuminated landmarks include New York City Hall in City Hall Park, Brooklyn Borough Hall at 209 Joralemon Street, the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street, Queens Borough Hall at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens, and Staten Island Borough Hall at 10 Richmond Terrace.
