New York-based Stylist Caitlyn Martinez is renowned for crafting looks that embody the badass spirit of her clients, including Rauw Alejandro, Rosalía, Coi Leray, and Tokischa, to name a few. From fashion campaigns to music videos and editorials, Martinez infuses her styling with an edgy sensibility that feels distinctly New York and we are fans.
Most recently, she styled Dominican rapper Tokischa for her performance in the Olivia De Camps-directed video for Skrillex-produced single “De Maravisha” faturing Nathy Peluso, an Argentinian singer and rapper.
In the midst of her busy schedule, Martinez shared with us via email her approach to styling Tokischa and the key qualities that have driven her success in the fashion industry.
Snobette: Where do you call home?
Caitlyn Martinez: “The East Coast feels most at home for me especially New York.”
Snobette: What attracted you to styling? Was it always your career path?
Caitlyn Martinez: “Fashion has always been a huge part of my life growing up. I owned a clothing store, and that’s where I met my first client—everything started from there.”
Snobette: How do you approach styling Tokischa?
Caitlyn Martinez: “With Tokischa, her body and skin are her best accessories. We always work around those assets, keeping in mind that it has to give cunt.”
Snobette: What are the three qualities that make you excel at what you do?
Caitlyn Martinez: “The invaluable relationships I’ve cultivated over the years, which grant me access to exceptional pieces; a refined sense of taste that enables me to identify what’s truly extraordinary; an an innate ability to understand someone’s identity and use it as a foundation to unlock their full potential.”
