British artist FKA twigs has unveiled the music video for “Childlike Things,” a track from her latest album, Eusexua. This release has garnered attention because it includes North West, who delivered her verses in Japanese. The video comes on the heels of Ye critizing twigs for including his 11-year-old daughter in the video, in a post he made on X last week.
Directed by Jordan Hemingway, the short film features actor and filmmaker Kevin Smith portraying a skeptical record label executive. Influencer Jake Shane also makes an appearance. The script, crafted by Tony-winning playwright Jeremy O. Harris, presents a narrative where twigs plays the part of the artistic purist, striving to maintain her creative integrity against the pressures of commercial demands. In the video, Smith’s character suggests that twigs collaborate with a rapper to enhance its mainstream appeal.
The release of the “Childlike Things” video coincides with a tumultuous period for FKA twigs. She recently announced the cancellation of several North American tour dates due to visa issues. Twigs told fans she is working to rescheduling the performances.
North West is not new to the music industry. Recently, she showcased her talents by performing “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” at the Hollywood Bowl’s “The Lion King 30th Anniversary” live event in 2024. She also made her recording debut on the track “Talking/Once Again,” a song by ¥$, composed of Ye and singer Ty Dolla Sign. Additionally, North is working on her debut album, Elementary School Dropout, a project that pays homage to her father’s seminal work, The College Dropout.
