New York’s CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers) has announced its nominees and honorees for 2019. Rising star Virgil Abloh has garnered two nominations, for menswear and accessory designer of the year. Designer Sander Lak of Sies Marjan took home the emerging talent award in 2018 and this year is a nominee for the prestigious womenswear designer of the year category. The category also includes Brandon Maxwell and Rosie Assoulin, who took home the emerging talent trophy in 2016 and 2015 respectively.
For honorees, the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti International Award will go to Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The Positive Change Award will be presented to CFDA member Eileen Fisher for her commitment to sustainability. Stylist and editor Carine Roitfeld will receive the Founder’s Award in honor of CFDA’s own founder Eleanor Lamb. The Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard goes to fashion writer Lynn Yaeger.
CFDA selection committee members, who choose finalists and winners, include Joseph Altuzarra, Eva Chen, Mark Holgate, Jeffrey Kalinsky, Steven Kolb, Roopal Patel, Andrew Rosen, Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Wintour and newly-added members model Paloma Elsesser and Vogue.com fashion news director Chioma Nnadi
The 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards will be held on June 4, 2019 at the Brooklyn Museum.
