Nike has previewed a portion of the uniform tennis great Serena Williams will wear at the upcoming Wimbledon tournament, which opens on July 1, 2019 in London.
Reflecting the tournament rules that require players to wear all white, Williams will wear a white knit dress, which will be detailed with a Nike Swoosh brooch made with Swarovski crystals. The flashy accessory marks the first Swarovski crystal Swoosh made with Nike.
Nicknamed “the Broosh,” the accessory is meant to evoke a vintage feel. “I also wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn, but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena,” says Abby Swancutt, global design director for NikeCourt.
The Swoosh is made up of 34 crystals, the same age Williams was in 2016 when she won her most recent Wimbledon. Williams’ first Wimbledon game will take place on July 1st when she will face Italian player Giulia Gatto-Monticone.
