Nike continues to add new twists to its SNKRS app, announcing today it has added a feature called Shared Stash. Available on iOS and Android, the concept is similar to Nike’s location-activated Sneaker Stash launches that require the user to be within the perimeter of a specific geographic location to access the drop. Nike has typically utilized geographic-specific launches in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York.
For Nike’s Shared Stash feature, the new twist is a partnered, two-city launch whereby a shoe is launched in one of the cities and then only becomes available in the partnered city after the all of the shoes in the first city sell out.
Similar to Sneaker Stash, the user must go to what’s described as a secret location revealed by the app to pick up the shoe. If you’re outside of the geographic perimeter of the shoe, you will not be able to access the map. Once you’ve arrive at the Stash Spot, you tap “I’m here” on the SNKRS app and purchase the pair, which will be shipped to you.
Nike debuted Shared Stash on Tuesday (October 15, 2019), pairing New York and Boston. The New York/Boston Shared Stash launch kicked off with an orange Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2 and a white Cortez ’72 silhouette.
While purchasing the shoes is limited to specific locations, SNKRS app users in the partner city can observe as the shoes are being purchased. Once the first Stash city has claimed 100 percent of its inventory, users in the second stash access can gain access by tapping “unlock.”
It’s been pointed out that the Pegasus and Cortez are hardly must-cop items, and at the same time, the same silhouettes will available for anyone to purchase on nike.com on October 18th. As such, it’s likely Nike is using this first Shared Stash as a test run to work out any kinks. Going forward, one has to assume, there will be more covetable drops and a bigger story connecting the two cities.
