New York-based jewelry designer Angely Martinez has linked with fashion designer Priscilla Torres on a collection of jewelry. Titled “Trials of the Past,” the collection makes use of spiral seashells, a reference to Martinez and Torres’ shared Dominican Republican roots.
Martinez is a recent Fashion Institute of Technology graduate and is also an alum of designer Jules Kim‘s Bijules Incubator located on Canal Street in lower Manhattan.
In a combined statement the two designers stated, “We were conceptually inspired by the spiral seashells’ association to the natural evolution of life, and what they meant to the Taíno and West African ancient civilizations pre-colonial time.
“The Taínos often depicted spiral symbols as a representation of cosmic energy and sweet water. The evolving shape was considered a sacred symbol that represented the journey and change of life as it unfolds believed by the Kongo people. As long as the sun rises, life evolves.”

Ranging in price from $150 for a necklace up to $570 for a choker, the entire capsule is now available at angelymartinez.net.
