As part of National Nail Polish Day (June 1, 2020), we were inspired to speak with Jazmin Gresham, the founder of Nailcon, a platform creating as a meeting ground for nail artists, beauty brands and appreciative consumers.
Born in Chicago-born and now based in New York, Gresham has worked for several fashion brands and saw a void in platforms dedicated to creating a community for lovers of nail art.

Snobette: Can you tell us about your background, hometown and professional journey so far?
Jazmin: “I’m originally from Chicago. New York has been home for about eight years now. I moved here to start my career in fashion, however, I had no clue that would lead me to beauty. Since moving to New York, I’ve had the opportunity of working for some pretty cool brands like Diane Von Furstenberg, Coach, Ralph Lauren, and Todd Snyder. I was able to work on fashion shows and events and really enjoyed creating activations and experientials. Watching a crowd enjoy themselves because of a brand is something that gave me a sense of fulfillment.”
Snobette: What is your connection to nail art and nail care?
Jazmin: “I’ve been getting my nails done for the past 16 years. At this point it’s like a habit. I thank my mom who showed me a manicure is a part of personal hygiene. It’s how you take care of yourself. Growing up I wore every style of nail art you can think of. I had money, mirrors, 3D flowers and swirls, blocks, letters and 3D stickers. You name it, I had it. I was obsessed because nails were my creative outlet to the point I’ve become known for my nails.
“Friends and colleagues would always ask me about nail trends, what artist they should visit and the best salons for art. I wanted to discover more salons, more nail techs, so for about a year and half I traveled to different cities statewide and out of the country to get my nails done, interview artists and build relationships with them.”
Snobette: How did the concept of Nailcon come about?
Jazmin: “Nailcon came from a conversation I was having with a close friend about a few conventions we attended last summer. I remember thinking, ‘I wish there was a convention for nails, I’d love to attend that, someone should create that!’ Then the light bulb went off and I decided to go ahead and create it.
“Nailcon at its core is a nail festival and community celebrating all things nails, beauty and wellness. We are here to unite nail lovers, artists and brands while creating a safe space in the nail industry.”
Snobette: What we can look forward to this year for Nailcon?
Jazmin: “We officially launched the Nailcon website two weeks ago and that’s been really exciting. The beauty community can look forward to connecting with some of their favorite nail artist and brands on our social media channels as well as the upcoming Nailcon TV, which will offer tutorials, demonstrations and also highlight nail techs and nail artists as well as business building resources.”
Snobette: What do you think the big trend will be in nail silhouettes and nail art designs?
Jazmin: “I think the Russian Almond nail silhouette will be big as well as super blinged-out nails. I already see the girls in the South where salons have reopened getting all the crystals, jeweled nails and very intricate designs. The girls are ready for summer!”
