Sneaker boutique Epitome was among the stores located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta that were looted during Saturday (May 30, 2020) demonstrations protesting the murder of George Lynch by Minneapolis police officers.
Responding to the loss on Instagram stories, Epitome co-owner Martina McFlyy wrote, “Thanks so much for reaching out, and showing love and support-It means a lot.I didn’t post for sympathy. I wanted to share the very harsh reality to this fight for freedom, justice and equality. Assets are replaceable–BLACK LIVES (that have been taken unjustly for centuries in this very country) are irreplaceable. I am safe, alive and a women with the gift of many dreams–and the ability to manifest them. I will keep dreaming, keep manifesting with the help of God. You can’t kill a dream or a Revolution. #blacklivesmatter #riseup.”
In a second post she added, “What my day looked like…This entire week has been HEAVY. And to wake up to this put me in complete and utter devastation. I wish that the manifestation of a dream and 10 years serving Atlanta and beyond was not a casualty of this war on racism and injustice…but it IS. I pray first and foremost for FREEDOM, JUSTICE, and EQUALITY. And I also pray that whatever the outcome, @epitomeatl, an INDEPENDENT SMALL BUSINESS–already in a fragile state because of the pandemic-be in line with the will of God. #blacklivesmatter #weloveatl”
