As part of Fenty Skin‘s launch yesterday (July 20, 2020), Robyn Rihanna Fenty chatted with Access Hollywood about entering the beauty and skincare business as well as some of her red carpet fashion highlights and of course where she is with her ninth studio album.
Asked about the Guo Pei yellow dress she wore to the Met Gala in 2015, the music and beauty mogul surprisingly said she had concerns about how the dramatic gown would be received.
She explained, “I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, ‘I’m doing too much.’ I was driving past the red carpet and I was just seeing gowns, and I was like ‘Oh my god, I’m a clown, people are going to laugh at me, this is like, too much!'”
She added that she was scared enough that she had the driver circle the block before she worked up the courage to make her appearance. She added, “I circled like three times, I’m not even joking and finally it was like, ‘Whatever, let’s go!'”
When asked how the pandemic has impacted her ability to work on her album, Rihanna explained, “R9 has been affected tremendously over the years basically because I’ve got other babies to tend to. It’s not all my attention on one. I love making music so I always There’s other things on the carousel now so I have to pay attention to everything and stay of top of everything. I’m just that way. Music sometimes takes a hit because these other things are crucial in terms of timelines and production.
There’s so much that people never understand that goes on behind the scenes. But I love what I do. It all started with music and music is still my first love and so I can’t wait to put something out that I’m really proud of and excited about. And it’s probably going to be sooner than my fans think but I’m just going to leave that alone.”
When asked what she wants her legacy to be, Rihanna was stumped for a second and answered, “I never ever in my life thought about that. But I want to feel proud of everything I’m putting out, even right now, so that even when I’m not here, it’s something that I still felt great about, I believed in, its effected people, it’s impacted their lives and they felt that with their sincerity.”
