Nike‘s LDVaporwaffle sneaker collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier as interpreted by Sacai designer Chitose Abe is back on the calendar, according to leak account @py_rates.
The mid sneaker offered in either black or a multiple colors is distinguished by a double tongue and Swoosh and an extended outsole that creates a shelf like projection at the heel, a design elemnt that’s become a signature for Nike and Sacai’s collaborative shoes.
Both sneakers are also detailed with oversized stitching on the lower portion of the upper along with Jean Paul Gaultier branding on the tongue and insole.
Chitose Abe’s effort with Italian designer Jean Paul Gaultier was first announced in early 2019. Gaultier had announced he was shutting down ready-to-wear production but would continue to show haute couture collections as interpreted by a series of designers.
Abe was tapped to design the debut collaborative haute couture collection, however, the pandemic arrived shortly after and the effort was moved out from the mid-year shows to January 2021. In mid-January, Gaultier announced the haute couture effort with Abe would again be pushed out.
While there’s still no new timing for the haute couture show, it appears as though Nike is ready to put the shoe back on its launch calendar.
Priced at $180, as of now there’s no launch timing other than 2021.
