New York-based Trophy Hunting, a collaboration between Bronx-native Kari Cruz and Bay Area-native Dustin O. Canelin, have provided a glimpse into their upcoming Puma collaboration. Drawing inspiration from the founders’ mutual passion for sports, the 12-piece footwear and apparel collection effortlessly incorporates the rich cultural influences that shaped Cruz’s upbringing in the Bronx.
Weighing in on the effort with Puma, Cruz told Footwear News, “The jewelry, specifically the nameplate, is a rite of passage for the girls who grew up in my neighborhood of the Bronx, NY. It’s a token that you carry with you through life and a tradition of sorts that you pass down generationally. It was really important for me to have that personal tie in, to not just serve as a reflection of my life but as a dedication to all of the women who have impacted my life too. Growing up in the birthplace of hip hop as the fashion and styles were emerging, it also felt like an appropriate time to give a subtle homage to hip-hop 50.”
There are three footwear silhouettes: the Clyde All-Pro, which includes a removable gold anklet, the Slipstream and the Suede Vulcanized, offered in a forest green the brand is known for.
Apparel is highlighted by a satin varsity jacket featured a faux-fur duck camouflage print lining, a playful print that plays off perfectly against the traditional prep school silhouette. Additional pieces include a full-zip reversible track jacket, adorned with gold nameplatedetailing
Included in the range is a full-zip reversible track jacket, adorned with gold nameplate detailing on the back and bamboo-shaped gold hoops on the zipper. Playing off of the school uniforms Cruz wore to school as a young women, apparel also includes a heavyweight mesh performance skirt in the label’s signature Blackwatch plaid, alongside basketball shorts, biker shorts and leggings.
Priced from $96-$196, Puma and Trophy Hunting’s capsule will launch on puma.com and alwaystrophyhuting on November 9, 2023.
