Belgian label Filles à Papa has released a lookbook from its pre-Autumn 2015 collection titled “Pedal to the Metal,” inspired by fashion with roots in good ole U.S. of A themes like auto racing, varsity sports, and even a dash of rodeo, plus lots of red, white and blue. Taken from a European perspective, it’s easy to understand the appeal and fascination with America’s race car culture. Similar to city-inspired streetwear, it’s brash, in your face and reflects a certain rough and rebellious edge. Though for those living stateside, it’s easier to look at this collection piece by piece, if only because living here makes it harder to separate the appeal of the aesthetic from the ultra-conservative politics it’s usually associated with.
