Anna Wintour appeared on Seth Meyers talk show last night and recapped the Met Gala, and while mostly known for her seriousness, for the interview she served up the wry side of her personality. The conversation kicked off with her view on Kanye West with Wintour stating unequivocally, “I adore Kanye….he likes to talk and he basically likes to talk about anything, sort of like Karl Lagerfeld, he’s brilliant. And I like to listen so we have a very close relationship.” She also talked about the theme, “Chinese white tie,” and also reviewed some of the looks. She gave high marks to Ann Hathaway’s Ralph Lauren hooded gown, described Dwyane Wade’s tux with a red sash and ‘imperial medals” as amazing, and also said Justin Beiber’s Balmain dragon jacket was one of her favorites. Not surprisingly, Wintour gave Rihanna high praise, describing her as “such a star.”
For the after parties, Wintour says she chooses not to attend, saying, “If I go to the after parties, people think they have to behave well, which after all is not the point of the after parties.”
