Amber Rose Defends Kanye West In Taylor Swift Drama

AmberVH1

In a clip from episode three of VH1’s “Amber Rose Show,” Rose sporting a retro blonde wig, gave her view on the Kanye West & Kim Kardashian versus Taylor Swift dust up over whether Swift knew in advance about the controversial lyrics in West’s song “Famous.” It’s an event Rose is eminently qualified to speak on because she was West’s girlfriend and attended the MTV VMA awards with him in 2009 when West infamously jumped on stage and grabbed the award for best video away from Swift.

In the clip, Rose prefaced her explanation by saying she isn’t West’s biggest fan, but added that after witnessing everything West had to deal with after the 2009  VMAs, she felt certain he wouldn’t take the chance of publishing controversial content related to Swift without receiving an okay from her. In the clip, Rose explains:

“And I remember the repercussions after that. And I remember Taylor’s mother and father coming up to us, and saying, ‘One day, Kanye, you’re going to have a daughter and someone’s going to do that to you.’ And he was so remorseful. I mean, he really felt so bad because it wasn’t about Taylor, it was about Beyoncé and her video. We all know that Beyoncé should have won that, it’s no shade. It’s no shade.

But yea, he didn’t want to interrupt her moment. It really wasn’t about Taylor. He didn’t even know who she was at the time. It was a very, very hard time for him.  I watched Lady Gaga cancel the tour. I watched people say they didn’t want to work with him anymore because of it. And he really went through a lot of bullshit. And I know that Kanye would never, ever go through that again by not calling Taylor and saying, ‘Heads up, I’m about to kinda go write this verse real quick, just wanna make sure you’re cool with it.’ I know that about Kanye.

Rose also provided some backdrop on the video for “Famous,” whose making for the most part has been kept secret, noting:

I say that all to say, why didn’t I get a call about using the naked wax figure in your video, Kanye? Taylor gets a call, but I don’t get a call? So please stay out of the news so I don’t have to talk about your ass no more!”

While Rose version of events adds a lot of interesting back story on some very big moments in pop culture history, the VMAs award snatch and the making of the “Famous” video, the video showing West having a conversation with Swift already established that he did indeed inform her of some of the lyrics in “Famous” prior to it being published.

What remains unresolved is whether Swift was ever warned about the lyrics, “I made that bitch famous.” After the Snapchat video was revealed, Swift responded on Instagram and said hadn’t been told about the bitch line and that was what she was reacting to in her Grammy album of the year award acceptance speech earlier this year.

For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runwa For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runway show and present their collection in a styled lookbook.

Taking inspiration from a feminine Y2K aesthetic, the collection embodies designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault’s ability to balance sexy and cool.

In an interview with Vogue, the pair shared that they are currently working on a new design director role in Europe and have several other projects in the pipeline, including another denim project, a collaboration with a jewelry brand, and a menswear capsule for an e-commerce site.

Commenting on the lookbook styling, they shared, "Obviously in the lookbooks it's styled in a quite extreme way, but if you break it down into individual pieces, we've been thinking about merchandising and the customer more than ever before," said Arsenault. "We've seen the team in the studio wearing the pieces differently too, and we've taken that into account. It's a nice challenge to say: 'Okay, we want to make a sweatshirt, but it still has this silhouette or wash or rib detail that makes it feel really Knwls."
