As one of the faces fronting MiuMiu’s campaign for Spring 2014, we were not surprised to see Lupito Nyong’o in attendance at the label’s runway show, held during Paris Fashion Week. It comes on the heels of her winning an Oscar for best-supporting actress in connection with her work on the movie Twelve Years a Slave.
Nyong’o has taken the acting and fashion world by storm. In part it is her talent as a actor, but it’s also her glowing good looks. And while one could argue a good part of the buzz is simply because chocolate-skinned actress are a rarity in Hollywood, it is also because she is stunningly beautiful even by runway model standards, a look so striking that its equivalent hasn’t been seen since Angelina Jolie first emerged on the scene.
Given her Oscar win, packaged with her talent and beauty, we’re placing bets that we will see her on a Vogue cover within the next six months. That time frame includes the September issue, which has only featured two black women in its entire existence: Naomi Campbell in 1989 and Halle Berry in 2010.
On a side note, the name of Nyongo’o’s stylist has emerged over the past few days. Her name is Micaela Erlanger. Making Nyong’o look good might be the easiest job description in the world, but Erlanger deserves props for making her look as amazing as she is by keying in on the actress’s grace, charm and elegance and bringing those character traits to the forefront in the form of fashion.
