Maliibu Miitch: ‘Renaming the South Bronx the Piano District, That Bothers Me”

In a two-part interview, Bronx rapper Maliibu Miitch explained her upbringing, attending high school in the Bronx and North Carolina and described some of the cultural differences between the two places.

She noted that Bronx has begun to show signs of gentrification, including an attempt to make her neighborhood sound more palatable by calling it the Piano District.

Miitch cited 50 Cent as a major influence and when asked whether the Bronx now has a distinct sound, she said she grew up on ganster rap, but thinks the borough no longer has an identifying sound.

In speaking on her mix tape “Top Five,” Miitch explained in the “Who’s That Girl” video, she was armed with a fake AK 47, which she knew how to handle because of her many hours spent watching “Street Kings” and “Law & Order.” She also explained that her co-star is her boyfriend, rapper Chase Money Marz, and whether he lives or dies will be revealed in an upcoming video.

A clip of her filming a video on the subway for her next single, “4 AM,” went viral on social media last month, and she explained what went into making into. In terms of how she records, Miitch said she works in a studio in SoHo and likes to write her verses while she’s in the booth while Marz works on hooks.

When asked about doing reality TV, Miitch said she’s been offered opportunities, but she isn’t interested in doing anything that’s based on drama and controversy.

In part two, Miitch talked about her shopping habits and noted she does a lot of thrift shopping, but is more focused on an overall look than labels. She also added that while sneakers were a hot item while she was growing up, her mother couldn’t afford to buy her the latest fresh pairs, which wasn’t always easy for her as a student.

The interview ended with a discussion about Trump. Miitch said she still sees Obama as her president and feels that Donald Trump has convinced a lot of stupid people they can do anything. On a positive note, she doesn’t believe he will last all four years.

For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runwa For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runway show and present their collection in a styled lookbook.

Taking inspiration from a feminine Y2K aesthetic, the collection embodies designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault’s ability to balance sexy and cool.

In an interview with Vogue, the pair shared that they are currently working on a new design director role in Europe and have several other projects in the pipeline, including another denim project, a collaboration with a jewelry brand, and a menswear capsule for an e-commerce site.

Commenting on the lookbook styling, they shared, "Obviously in the lookbooks it's styled in a quite extreme way, but if you break it down into individual pieces, we've been thinking about merchandising and the customer more than ever before," said Arsenault. "We've seen the team in the studio wearing the pieces differently too, and we've taken that into account. It's a nice challenge to say: 'Okay, we want to make a sweatshirt, but it still has this silhouette or wash or rib detail that makes it feel really Knwls."
