Brooklyn-born rapper Jay-Z recently checked in with Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller’s on their Rap Radar podcast to provide his thoughts behind his recently-released album 4:44.
Given Wilson is an old friend of Jay’s and works for Jay’s streaming service, Tidal, the line of questioning was still fairly thorough and a lot of ground was covered, ranging from 4:44 lyrics to Jay’s view on religion.
Speaking to controversial lyrics, Jay defended his money phone line and also his bars describing all Jewish people as property owners.
Jay also spoke to lyrics in the song “Kill Jay Z” directed at Kanye West and acknowledged the two were not in a good place. Jay placed the blame on West calling out his wife, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy, during a concert in November 2016, noting that West’s decision to mention his family changed everything.
While Jay insisted his issue with West were related to his statements about his family, West is said to have financial beef with Tidal and reportedly has left Jay-Z’s streaming service Tidal over matters related to payment.
After covering the West fallout, Jay also discussed his infamous elevator fight with Solange Knowles, who he described as not his sister-in-law but his sister.
He also confirmed that his album was named after 444 14th Street, the address for The Standard hotel, the Manhattan building in which the infamous fight went down.
