Putting aside the multiple big developments in Game of Thrones season seven, episode six, the pop out fashion moment was absolutely the white coat Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) wore throughout the episode, as evidenced by the multiple references to it on social media.
Marked by white-on-grey vertical ribbing, the wool and fur coat was marked by a remarkable back panel featuring a horizontal zig-zag pattern that mimicked the spikes on her dragons’ back. It’s intriguing that the piece is white, a color that would foreshadow something other than the multiple, tragic deaths that marked the second half of the episode.
Game of Thrones costumes are designed by British-born Michele Clapton, who accessorized the coat with a sterling silver, crossbody chain with three dragon heads, crafted by Yunus & Eliza.
The chain first appeared this season, a piece meant to reflect Daenerys’ return to Dragonstone and her warrior mindset.
In commenting on the piece as Daenerys wore it in episode four, Clapton, said, “The [chain is] less like jewelry and more appropriately militaristic. It was important to use the three Dragon sigil in the design of the chain and also the circle at the shoulder in which to loop her red Targaryen sash to heighten her sense of status.”
A reproduction of the chain is available to purchase for $2,794 at mey.london, which sells higher-priced pieces inspired by the show.
