A video emerged earlier this week on Gothamist of a white man holding a Bud Light Lime-A-Rita on a New York subway being confronted by passengers as he repeatedly screamed nigger on a New York L train. The video begins with passengers first attempting to silence him as he shouts the epitaph and then shows them banding together to push him off the train at the Bedford Avenue stop in Brooklyn.
The video was shot by Joshua R. Pyne, who told Gothamist the incident occurred Saturday (October 7, 2017) at around 2:00 PM, “after the man had a ‘spat about personal space’ with a group of young black men. The video begins a few seconds after he shouted ‘stupid nigger’ at the group, who departed at 1st Avenue in Manhattan.
New York rapper Princess Nokia on Twitter has identified herself as the person throwing a cup of soup on the man as he’s pushed off the train, while also yelling at him to get off the train. She also provided additional back story on what led to the confrontation.
“This bigot called a group of teenage boys ‘niggers’ on the train so I stood up and slapped him and everybody on the train backed me up,” said Nokia. “When I slapped him he called me a ‘nigger,’ and when I did all my brothers on the train came to my side and held my hand and comforted me.
“Although painful and humiliating we stood together and kicked this disgusting racist off the train so we could ride in peace away from him. And yes, I threw hot soup in this man’s face and kicked him off the train and kicked [him] in the face.
“Any other racists wanna try us again? The important matter is: I will do anything to defend the honor of my brothers and sisters,” wrote Nokia who included #blacklivesmatter in the tweet.
Born and raised in New York, Nokia may be small in stature, but has a super hero-sized heart when it comes to defending her people and the honor of her city. There are few people we know with as much integrity and bravery as Nokia and we couldn’t be more proud of her, even as we worry about her at the same time!
