Following on on Louis Vuitton and artist Jeff Koons capsule collection for spring 2017, the dynamic duo have returned with a second “Masters” capsule featuring the artwork of Paris artist Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, François Boucher and Londoner William Turner.
One of the more popular items will no doubt be bags and accessories featuring Monet’s much-admired”Water Lilies” series. In May 2014, one of the paintings in the series was auctioned at Christie’s, New York for $27 million.
Louis Vuitton and Garage magazine held a launch party in New York, on October 12, 2017 that was attended by Koons, Virgil Abloh, Alexa Chung, Michelle Williams and Tavi Gevinson, among others.
While the “Masters” capsule probably has done well at retail (why do a second one if not?), not everyone is a fan of the concept, and there was plenty of grumbling initially around the choice to align Koons, who is viewed as controversial, with the work of established masters.
Including an array of bags and accessories, the capsule will hit Louis Vuitton’s website and stores on October 27, 2017.
