The chunky (or ugly if you prefer) sneaker trend is steady maintaining and appears like it’s going to make it through the lengths of summer with the most poppin’ pairs coming from Yeezy, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. On the few unseasonably hot days, we started see them paired with the prettiest, flowing floral dresses, and to be quite honest, it’s definitely a look to get on board with.
Aside from the comfort-levels of a wrap-dress bordering a light bathrobe and the ease of being in trainers, this look is the epitome of cute meets cool. Further, there’s so many accessories options. It’s a perfect opportunity to bring back the anklet and stack those gold chain necklaces, don any number of micro mini or transparent framed sunglasses, throw on a mini-backpack or transparent tote, and top off with an oversized or cropped denim jacket. As if sundresses weren’t a girl’s and fan favorite alike, you can even mix it up and flex your cute sock game or take the stack of Nike check normcore leftovers and wear those.
While you can always opt for the obvious brand name, excessively priced pairs, we’ve included a handful that won’t cost you a month’s worth of rent to put together with pretty prints and ensure you’re still getting a ‘fit off through the hottest months of the year.
Check out four takes on the trend, as rounded up by Rae Witte.

Arguably the shoe that started all, Nike’s Monarch, this classic dad-mowing-the-lawn sneaker started to make it’s way back on to the feet of fashion’s faves in 2015’s normcore awakening. While it never made it totally mainstream, it seems an obvious place to point of origin for the chunky sneaker and an easy option to offset the pretty ruffles of Realisation Par’s Juliet Rouge dress and Comme Des Garçons socks.
Honestly, in addition to offsetting Faithfull the Brand’s slit up the side, green dream of a sun dress, Jordan’s Retro 1 Red Bronze kicks will pair perfectly with very moisturized, glistening legs and extra cute Cav Empt lilac striped socks. They’re kind of like Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Body Lava in sneaker form.
Before Skechers, the undeniably adorable Fila Disruptor sneaker held down every middle school girl of the ‘90s. These are absolutely the best option to throw fresh clean white socks on with. The Working Co Girls socks with a little sassy message will let you show your truest self while draped in covered in & Other Stories little black floral dress.
The more feminine, more available version of the hype Vetements Reebok collaboration, the Epitome Reebok Instapump “Evolution Of The Woman” is arguably the girliest of the lot, but it’s merely the colorway that offsets this undeniably unique silhouette. Pairing them with this ankle-length Ganni printed dress and cute as hell sheet heart socks, makes for a pretty af ‘fit while still keeping it comfy. (The dress is basically a glam bathrobe, ya know?)
