Singer Demi Lovato was hospitalized today (July 24, 2018) after overdosing on heroin in her home in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, she was treated in her home with Narcan, a medication used to treat a narcotics overdoes.
The 25-year-old singer was transported to a hospital where, according to People, she is said to be recovering and stable.
According to TMZ, Lovato was out Monday night celebrating a friend’s birthday in West Hollywood and appeared happy. On Sunday she performed with Iggy Azalea at the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Dallas, Texas, Lovato has struggled with drug addiction and mental illness throughout her young life. In 2011, she entered a treatment facility for treatment of bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. Lovato relapsed after she left the treatment center and went on to enter a sober living facility for a year.
In March of last year, she stated she had achieved six years of sobriety, but this year in June she released “Sober,” a song whose lyrics address a loss of sobriety.
