Tizita Balemlay, CEO of streetwear label Plugged NYC has announced the launch of Plugged Studio, a studio and factory where designers can consult with an expert to assist them with the design and production of product.
While there are lots of small factories in and around New York City, the process of finding and working with one can be intimidating and time consuming. Plus, many manufacturers are reluctant to work with newbie designers or require high minimums.
Balemlay started up Plugged Studio to create a place where young creatives can learn the ropes in a judgement-free location.
“I want to help others because no one wanted to point me in that direction and give me a hand when I started,” explained Balemlay in an interview with TUC magazine. “Plugged Studio is not just a factory, it’s an in-house studio with amenities like house photography studios, manufacturing company, p.r. services, design, and logo services.”
On Instagram, she added, “Empowering others is NOT about listing YOUR accomplishments. Empowering others is about making the same journey you had easier for others! I did this as a thank you to everyone who has supported me.”
Located in Jersey City, NJ.. the 1,400 square-foot space provides access to screen printing, embroidery, sublimation as well as cut-and-sewn garments. In addition to manufacturing capabilities, Plugged Studio also provides consulting services, which include developing a design idea, creating a sample and sourcing materials.
Plugged Studio opened on August 1, 2018. The cost of the first appointment is $50 and includes a consultation with a project manager. Visit pluggedstudio.com to book an appointment.
