Nicki Minaj announced on Twitter that she is canceling her fall North American “NickiHndrxx Tour” dates, which included Future on the bill. In a statement on social media, she said, “Future and I will now start the European leg of our tour first so those dates will stay exactly the same. And the U.S. leg of the tour will now start in May.”
While Future will join her on the European and Australian portion of the tour, he will not be a part of the rescheduled North American tour dates.
Minaj noted the tour was pushed out because her album dropped later than originally planned. Said Minaj, “I just finished writing and recording literally hours before the album came out. So now I simply don’t have the time to rehearse and be on the road and give you guys the level of a show I need to give.”
While Minaj has blamed the delayed album, according to Page Six, the tour had to be cancelled because of low ticket sales. Page Six quoted a Live Nation source who said, “Nicki’s tour looked to be the most disappointing ticket sales of the year for any artist. She and Future were booked in big arenas with around 20,000 capacities.
“Sales for opening night in Baltimore were just 2,000 tickets. Los Angeles was 3,400 for a 17,000 capacity venue, New Orleans 1,000, Denver 1,300, Chicago 3,900. Even Nicki’s hometown of Brooklyn, the Barclays Center, which has a capacity of 19,000, sold only 5,050 tickets.”
The “NickiHndrxx Tour” was slated to kick off on September 21, 2018 in Baltimore.
The cancelled North American tour dates will be available for refund at point of purchase. Look for new North American tour dates to be announced shortly.
