Supreme today (September 3, 2018) announced plans for a fall 2018 capsule featuring the work of Mike Kelley, an artist best known for his multimedia installations that often featured found items and stuffed animals.
According to Supreme press, “American artist Mike Kelley was born in Wayne, Michigan in 1954. Active in Detroit’s upstart punk scene, Kelley moved to Los Angeles in the mid-’70s. On the West Coast, he developed an interdisciplinary practice spanning drawing and painting, performance, video, installation, assemblage and sound. Incorporating found objects and folk traditions, Kelley interrogated American popular culture and the rituals of youth. He died [by suicide] in 2012 at the age of 57, and is considered one of the most influential artists of his generation.”
Supreme and Kelley’s collection includes reproductions of some of his best-known work, including “More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid,” “The Wages of Sin,” “Ahh…Youth!” and his “Reconstructed History” series.
The collection consists of a work jacket, rayon shirt, work shirt, two hoodies, a crewneck, three t-Shirts and a set of eight skateboards.
The Kelly offerings will be sold in store in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Los Angeles, London and Paris on September 6, 2018. The collection will drop in Japan on September 8th.
