Nike revealed another official image of its Air Max 720 silhouette, a bubblicious shoe first revealed with a partial image in July 2018. In addition to the Air Max 720 running silhouette, Nike also introduced the Jordan Proto Max 720.
Nike talked up the shoe on its quarterly earnings call yesterday as a big initiative for 2018. On the call, Nike CEO Mark Parker stated, “This spring, we’re taking the exaggerated air you see in the Air Max 270 and going a step further with the introduction of the Air Max 720. This new platform is engineered for maximum comfort, cradling the entire foot. And the Air Max 720 is distinctly Nike and will deliver it to consumers in early 2019.”
According to press, the shoe will feature the tallest visible air unit in the brand’s history, boasting a height of 38 millimeter versus the Air Max 270’s 32 millimeters.
And while the shoe’s main design theme is even more air, the shape of the outsole was inspired by “the organic radiating movement of energy in different natural wonders,” which will be reflected in color stories. For example, upcoming colorways will play off lava flows, the Northern Lights, the Milky Way and sunsets and sunrises. (You can see some leaked versions of the AM 720 here.)
Nike said the shoes will launch in 2019 and we’re assuming that the running model will drop on Air Max Day, which will likely take place on March 26, 2019.
