Kanye West made an about face on Twitter yesterday with a series of tweets clarifying some of his political views and ending with a statement that he concluded he was being used and planned to focus entirely on his creative efforts going forward.
With the tweets, he rebuked right-wing activist Candace Owens’ claim that he had partnered with her to create a logo for Blexit, an initiative founded by a conservative group called Turning Point to push black people to leave the Democratic party. West wrote, “I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”
In a blog post today (October 31, 2018), Owens claimed, “I never once said that Kanye designed the t-shirts for BLEXIT. This is a lie that seems to have made its way around the world; a lie I would like to again correct for the record. Kanye was completely right to feel used in that regard and as I have done personally, I would like to publicly apologize to him for any undue stress or pain the effort to correct that rumor has caused him, his business relationships, or his family. He simply never designed them.”
The statement that she never claimed West designed the t-shirt is a lie. On her own Twitter feed in what she described as a “state of the union” address, she states, “Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colors, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero Kanye West.”
Owens’ Blexit efforts are funded by Turning Point, a right wing organization founded by Charlie Kirk, who receives millions of dollars in funding from ultra-conservative groups.
