City Girls member Yung Miami née Caresha Brownlee visited “The Breakfast Club” yesterday (November 13, 2018) where she tackled a range of topics from the groups’ formation to controversial statements Yung made on Twitter before the group blew up. The visit was part of a promotional effort for the groups’ upcoming album Girl Code, which will drop on November 16th.
City Girls member JT is currently serving a prison term related to fraud-related charge and Yung said she will likely be released in mid-December 2018.
In the interview, Yung explained the duo’s rise and how it was complicated by JT, who began serving a jail sentence (separate from the one she’s serving now) shortly after they released “Fuck that Nigga,” their first single that put them on the radar of Coach K née Kevin Leeradar and led to their signing with Quality Control.
Yung also touched on a big City Girls’ lyrical theme, which advocates for men to support women financially. Yung said, “It don’t matter if you a boss and you got your own shit, you could still ask a guy for something. You know as a woman, he should do for you anyway. He should buy your food. He should pay your bills. You should never have to go in your pocket.”
When asked about a series of controversial tweets that included insults of Haitians, Caresha explained her statements reflected competitive banter between U.S.-born Miami residents aka “Yanks” and Haitians on “Miami Twitter.”
Yung also was asked about a Tweet stating she would beat her son if she saw anything gay in him. Yung said she apologized for the tweet and has a gay stylist as well as friends and family members. However, she stuck to her guns on not wanting her son to be gay. “I wouldn’t want my son to be gay. I wouldn’t want my son dating the same sex,” she said.
On the topic of female artists, Yung said female artists should support each other but she conceded she is “team Cardi” because she supports the City Girls. “I’m supporting whoever supporting us,” she said.
