Chanel showed its resort collection for 2014 in Dubai today. The label”s president of fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky, spoke about the event to the press yesterday:
“Last year we showed the Cruise collection in Singapore, which felt like something of a new world for our customers. We wanted to continue, in that vein, around the world and Dubai has become one of the most important destinations for us. I’ll let Mr Lagerfeld talk from his perspective about the actual collection, but there’s clearly some inspiration taken from the Middle East. The concept of a Cruise collection also fits well with Dubai so that was inspiring too.”
Indeed, the collection does speak to style elements viewed as typically Middle Eastern: flowing kaftan-inspired silhouettes along with tunic and pant sets, stacks of bangles, plus tapered slippers, all themed around a rich and varied color palette. Perhaps speaking to the Middle Eastern riches procured through oil sales, gold is a big color theme and the collection even included a bag made in the shape of a portable gas container.
