M.I.A. last week performed her single, “Double Bubble Trouble,” from her album Matangi on Seth Meyers and this week the official video directed by the artist herself was made available. Better than just about anyone, M.I.A. has a talent for visually bringing forth to the surface societal angst that polite society likes to keep at an arm’s distance. The threat of government-sanctioned violence, alienation created by modern technology and street crime are some of the themes that she speaks to. It’s not a very nice video, rather it feels ominous and off kilter, but there is appeal in its truthfulness.
