In an interesting series of events and the testament to the changing landscape of New York , the 21st Precinct , formerly the home of a non profit LGBT group home, was the stage for an art extravaganza prior to its demolition. The building, located on East 22nd Street and purchased by Suzuki Capital, will be demolished and rebuilt into luxury boutique condos.
The four floor space was covered in original art by an impressive assortment of graffiti artists and muralists. The creativity was awesome indeed, but the feeling that this show was a last hurrah in many respects for a building with such a rich and important history, was to say the least bittersweet.
On the next page see a few of our favorites and the impressive list of artists who participated in the project.
