Beyoncé has often said she uses her music to express her feelings about her relationships and that is the case with the video for a new single called “Die With You.” Filmed in what looks like her home in Los Angeles, it shows Beyoncé sitting behind a piano accompanying herself on a sparse song about undying love. (Side note, that painting behind her is by James Nares.) The heartfelt emotion she conveys is surprisingly touching if only because she is best known for her big, bold performances and keeping the audience at least an arm’s distance away.
When the song is complete, she hollers in happiness. Of course a Beyoncé video isn’t complete without a little controversy and part of her celebration includes her throwing up her signature hand signs, which already has her fans (and detractors) debating whether they’re a shout to her home city, Houston, or a sign of the Illuminati. In the final seconds of the video, her husband, Jay Z, turns the camera on himself, revealing that he’s been filming her all along.
Beyoncé uploaded a snippit (below) of the video to her Instagram account on April 4th, reflecting the 7th anniversary of their wedding (and thus we guess the reason for the celebratory end note). The track has been released exclusively through the Tidal music streaming service that Jay Z recently launched and Beyoncé among others is involved with.
