Afropunk Fest in Brooklyn held this past weekend generated plenty of buzz this year for its star-studded lineup that included Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz and Grace Jones.
One of our favorite shooters, Versus, was on the scene and shared some of his images with us. Versus is known for his skill for capturing unabashed youth culture as played out in the city apartments, streets and various spots that make up his subjects’ creative playgrounds. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Versus himself is a youth himself and as such his shots feel very much in the moment and real with none of the outsider gaze that often sets up tension between shooter and subject.
