This time last year Chanel was staging a protest on the streets of the Grand Palais. This year, the lux label has literally moved on with a collection for Spring 2016 whose theme was global travel with the stage set in the ticketing area for Chanel Airlines. While last year’s collection included multi-generational looks, this one was more focused and refined and spoke to who one might imagine is the true Chanel customer. Still, while the rolling luggage, etched sunglasses and Birkenstock-inspired sandals absolutely are items you might spot in airports housing the private jets of the rich and famous, the fashion was a bit dressier and more buttoned up than worn by any traveler, whatever their income. Not that any of that matters, it’s Karl Lagerfeld’s made up world and we’re just grateful to be gazing upon it.
