Adidas Originals Stan Smith has been leading the charge on the return to white leather classic trend, dominance that was recognized last year with a “Shoe of the Year” award from Footwear News magazine, star power that’s spawned dozens of take down version by competing brands. Now it’s adding a platform to the beloved silhouette in women’s sizing, building on the elevated white leather shoe it made in collaboration with Asos earlier this year.
Adidas’s shoe of course brings to mind Rihanna‘s creeper with Puma. It’s a different platform, yes, but the idea of adding a flatform to a sneaker upper is the same. It’s a concept we first saw realized by Los Angeles designer Mr. Completely who first offered a creeper bottom on an Nike Air Force 1 and Adidas Samba last year. Rihanna was an early fan of the shoes, an appreciation that eventually led to design input on her shoe with Puma. Independently of Rihanna and Puma, Mr. Completely continues to offer sneakers customized with platforms, including a Stan Smith version, currently available for pre-order.
The Adidas Originals Stan Smith platform will be available at AsphaltGold.de in January. No word yet on any U.S. drops.
