Gucci has revealed that its presentation for autumn 2016 included a collaboration with Brooklyn-based designer and graffiti artist Gucci Ghost (also known as Trouble Andrew and Trevor Andrew), who is known for his appreciation for the Italian luxury label.
Street-inspired artists and designers have longed commented on the power certain luxury labels hold as status symbols in predominately poor and working class minority neighborhoods, so it is the cleverest of twists that the label’s head creative, Alessandro Michele, brought into the fold an artist who riffs of the Gucci mystique. It’s a partnership that creates an infinity mirror effect, repurposing the label’s logo a an item that is not just packed with history but is also modern and artful.
Gucci traditionally hasn’t done a lot of collaborations with artists and independent designers, though clearly Michelle has shown he has a different mindset. Prior to the collaboration with Gucci Ghost, the label also worked with Comme Des Garçons on a capsule of holiday scarves.
