Bronx native Maxine Ashley has released the video for the Joe Janiak-produced seductive single, “Lobster,” a wavy single meant to pay tribute to her Bronx identity and the family that she is surrounded by within her building and neighborhood. The single isn’t available for purchase but should be uploaded to Ashley’s Soundcloud account soon. Fashion-wise, check for the MadeMe “Pretty on the Inside” souvenir jacket she wears throughout.
Wise beyond her years, Ashley profile shot up when she was signed by Pharrell’s imprint I Am Other in 2014. While just 21 years of age, Ashley has been involved in the entertainment industry since her early teens, a career that grew out of her YouTube channel on which she showed impressive chops covering popular songs by Beyoncé and Rihanna among others.
The popularity of the channel led to her signing a deal with Interscope that would entail her moving to London at age 13, where she performed, recorded and wrote music, including a vocal appearance on Italian DJ Alex Gaudino’s single “I’m in Love.” Four years later, Ashley returned home and not long after linked with Pharrell with whom she has thus far recorded an ep titled “Moodswings.” Listen to it here: soundcloud.com/maxineashley
