At the moment, Kylie Jenner sits at the top of the food chain for the most controversial teenager on the planet. People are enraged by her age and her profession, her income, her lip injections, her boyfriend, Tyga, and more recently, her lip kits’ faulty brushes. You name it, if Kylie’s doing something, it’s making someone angry.
For Coachella, she wore what seemed to be an innocent enough Discount Universe sequin bikini, but nope, even that choice managed to cause a ruckus. Turns out, another young woman, Brit Day (located in Australia just like the label), had posted an image of herself in the same bikini on Instagram a couple weeks back and when she saw Kylie’s Coachella image, posted a side by side comparison, in which she said Jenner aka “the babe” stole her look. All hell then broke loose with people accusing Jenner of being a style theft among other mean things.
The two designers from Discount Universe yesterday decided to speak up, stating:
“GUYS!! Just to clear some stuff up… Kylie was one of the first people to get a hold of this set, no ones copying anyone and both of them looked FUCKING GREAT! Let’s stand by eachother… no more shaming #girlpower #kyliejenner #discountuniverse”
Leaving aside that Jenner has a stylist who may or may not have picked out this outfit, she has early access to Discount Universe’s line because the label is held by VFiles in its SoHo showroom, where Jenner is a frequent visitor.
While Discount Universe in this case spoke out, it sometimes seems odd how little anyone close to Jenner ever comes to her defense, not her dude, not her sisters, not her momager, nobody. It’s like she’s constantly being served up to the wolves. Though perhaps controversy is part of the Kardashian secret sauce for staying atop of all heaps and one cannot pick and choose to defend a dispute because it’s ugly or unjust while leaving aside another one more benign. Rather one must ride all the waves, good and bad, using the resultant pile up of paper to dab one’s tears.
