Looking fly with cobalt blue hair, rap artist Cardi B finally visited Hot 97 yesterday (June 21, 2016), a trip that took a little longer than it should have (we assume) because of host Peter Rosenberg going off and calling her an idiot just prior to her beginning her role on “Love & Hip Hop NY” in December of last year. The thawing of the situation was further complicated by Cardi B’s connection to DJ Self, who works for rival station Power 105.1.
In the 41 minute interview, Cardi covered some well-worn themes, including getting her teeth fixed, getting kicked out of her home as a teen, her entry into the world of stripping, plastic surgery, and “dating” DJ Self on “Love & HipHop NY.” (And though Ebro Darden claims he doesn’t watch the series, even he must know her relationship with Self is scripted.)
Cardi also brought up her on-again-off-again relationship with her boyfriend, Tommy, who is currently incarcerated. While Cardi recently said on Twitter they were engaged and even more recently said they had broken up, in the interview she only said she has no plans to marry, explaining, “There’s a lot of drama going on between me and him right now.”
She added she has only one more season left on “LHHNY” and within the context of the show, spoke about the challenges of fame. On the topic of her burgeoning rap career, Cardi insisted she’s serious about the art form and writes her own rhymes.
Rosenberg closed out the show by apologizing to Cardi, saying he didn’t want to be the person who knocks on a person who is trying to make themselves better. Knowing Cardi and her petty self, she will forgive him….nevah!
