It’s been a borderline trip to watch menswear stylist Ian Connor be accused of rape by multiple women, many who have gone on the record, with little-to-no apparent blow back, and by that we don’t mean a lack of prosecutions. We understand that the evidence hasn’t been there, but the guy appears to have continued on his merry way when it comes to working as a stylist within menswear, an industry full of people just as talented and hard working as him who could easily fill his small shoes.
That all ended today (June 23, 2017) at a Virgil Abloh You Cut Me Off” book signing held in the afternoon at Colette’s Water Bar in Paris, an event attended by A$AP Rocky, A$AP Bari and Theophilus London. Connor was also in attendance and first got into a face-to-face confrontation with London that he backed off of, only to return a few moments later, blindsiding London with an open slap to the face. As Rocky attempted to keep London from retaliating, the altercation spilled out into the street, where Connor was then struck by A$AP Bari, who had been jawing at Connor throughout the event.
It’s unclear what the timing was, but it appears that during the event, London wrote a series of tweets (below) saying that “rapist” Connor will have no peace as long as he’s in the building. [Update: London has told Complex his Tweets came after he was punched and weren’t connected with the rape accusations.]
The drama, unfortunately, didn’t end with a punch out, rather the three reconvened afterwards on Twitter, where London aka @TheophilusL, Bari aka @toasttothegod and Connor aka @souljaian continue to go at each other with Bari at one point tweeting what appeared to be screen shot of Connor’s cell phone numbers.
There were also supposed Connor screen shots tweeted with him writing in a group text exchange, “Fuck Theo, Fuck Bari, Fucky Rocky, Fucky Kanye, I’m on my VLONE shit.”
Based on the tweets, these guys all know a LOT about each other and it seems clear that at one time Bari and Connor were once close, and in fact it appears Bari even brought him into the A$AP circle. London in a Tweet said he introduced Kanye West to Connor when he was working for Wiz Khalifa, which sounds entirely plausible.
A lot of what was tweeted was very unsavory and even if only half true, most definitely diminished the visceral satisfaction that came from seeing Connor punched out. It’s like damn, the whole bunch of them seem to know he was an abusive mess and still kept him around like that?
Eventually the drama will pass, but when it’s all over, it’d be great to never again see Connor’s face at any more menswear events. Tomorrow, it’ll be interesting to see if he’s anywhere to be found at West’s The Life of Pablo merchandise pop-up store in Paris. A lot of eyes will be watching to see what message West sends.
