Best known for his red bottoms and more recently a foray into the beauty category, French designer Christian Louboutin is spreading his wings a bit further as outfitter for the Cuban Olympic team’s official off-field outfits, worn at formal events, including opening and closing ceremonies.
Louboutin collaborated on the uniforms with Henri Tai, a former professional handball player, who is the founder of SportyHenri.com, an ecommerce store whose focus is sport-themed clothing. The two are friends and the idea for outfitting team arose from a trip Louboutin took to Cuba to visit with Tai.
Naturally red is a key color, a nod not just to Louboutin’s famous shoes, but also the Cuban flag, which features a prominent red triangle. The men’s jackets are red while women’s are khaki-colored and both feature the Cuban flag on the breast pocket with a star on the back. Footwear includes a high-top trainer, as well as a loafer for the guys and a kitten-heel shoe for the women.
