As the recipient of MTV VMA Michael Jackson Vangaurd Award, Rihanna opened and closed the show, performing a total of four times, all of which were marked by very different costume looks, ranging from street-inspired dancehall to ballroom couture.
Her fashion team was led by Mel Ottenberg, who provided some idea of the effort that went into the organization with the Instagram hashtag #howispentmysummervacation. He shouted out costume designer Mindy Le Brock, who assisted in bringing together all the looks.
As far as choreography, that was handled by the very accomplished Paris Goebel and the futuristic set was designed by Willo Perron.
