Based in Toronto, artist Babneet Lakheshar started painting under the pseudonym of Babbu the Painter.Inspired by her South Asian heritage Lakheshar creates apparel and accessories with a tongue in cheek appeal referencing the challenge to be creative when family, and social norms often dictate careers that are more traditional. Hence, her collection of hand painted denim jackets have titles like “baakwaas” the slang Hindi word for “rubbish” or “bindaas” which translates as “carefree”. The jackets are available in various sizes on Babbu the Painter’s webstore, with the more personalized option of sending in your own jacket to be painted.
