Azealia Banks Sticks With Her Side Of Story; Says RZA Is Chump

October 19, 2016. 3 Comments

After a dust up involving Harlem rapper Azealia Banks, Australian actor Russell Crowe and Wu-Tang founder RZA, Azealia Banks in an interview with TMZ has reiterated her version of events, saying she was cursed at, choked and called a nigger by Crowe while attending a Beverly Hills hotel party as a guest of RZA. Prior to the event, Banks had announced on her Facebook account she was signing on to a record deal with RZA.

“I showed up in the middle of a really boozy party. I guess you know when men are making jokes, you’re not supposed to you know add jokes and be funny, and you know there was a lot of trying to put me in my place you know that kind of backfired. You know because I’m just as quick and witty and sharp and whatever. And you know when it comes to male egos and bruising male egos, especially like, when somebody’s holding court at their party and they’re like, getting on everyone and ragging on everyone, ragging on me and then when you rag on them and I guess the joke is a little too like, a little too real, then you’re getting choked and spit on and called a nigger and all kind of extra shit,” said Banks.

When asked why all the witnesses sided with Crowe’s version of events, Banks explained that as guests of Crowe they would of course side with him. She added that RZA didn’t have enough clout among high-power Hollywood white man to defend her. Banks reiterated that she didn’t threaten anyone with a bottle and added she is no longer planning to sign with RZA’s label.

“I’m not signing shit with RZA. Absolutely not. If these guys can chump you out like that’s not someone I need to attach myself to. I’m strong enough on my own and when it comes to things like that and you have a label boss, he’s going to be the one like leading me and he’s going to be my representative and I can’t be represented by some chump,” said Banks, who when asked about whether she was moving forward with pressing charges, said she would update more tomorrow.

In conclusion, this sounds like one of those lit, drunken parties that spun way out of control because there were too many personalities in the room and a lot of them were from entirely different backgrounds and status levels. At the very least, it sounds like Banks was forced out of the party. Why she was removed and what was said/done when that happened will not be known unless is was caught on tape. As usually though, it seems this woman can have no peace in her life, which is a damn shame.

Check out an excerpt below.

Ten years in, Jean-Raymond’s star has only risen. He hangs out with celebrities (Tracee Ellis Ross, Brent Faiyaz), made a cameo on Insecure, and drives flashy cars (a McLaren 720S, an Aston Martin Superleggera, a Porsche GT3 RS). Meanwhile, his brand is nearly nonexistent.

There is no Pyer Moss boutique. The clothing celebrated on the runway was mostly not available to anybody who didn’t have a celebrity stylist to pull it for them, and company insiders complained that quality control was so uneven that at times what was produced was too flawed to be sold. Jean-Raymond sometimes missed deadlines, didn’t always pay bills, started other projects, and alienated allies. He referred to Pyer Moss as an “art project” and seemed reluctant to make practical choices. Among the fashion insiders who had cheered his rise, there has been a growing feeling that he has wasted an opportunity to build something important.

The last straw for many of his early supporters was his couture show in July 2021. Titled “WAT U IZ,” and put on in the U.S. during Paris Couture Week, it was a tribute to the various innovations that Black people have been responsible for, often without credit. The models came down the runway decked out in a jar of peanut butter and a traffic light. A lot of it wasn’t really clothing, much less couture. Even if the professional critics and other members of the fashion press seemed hesitant to publicly express their disappointment, they whispered among each other that he’d lost the plot of his brand.
