Solange stepped up to the plate and absolutely delivered last night with two Saturday Night Live performances capturing the same artful appeal of her album, A Seat at the Table. Performing the album’s two most popular songs, “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair,” music was elevated to new heights through a full backing band plus costume and dance choreography that were of the moment and yet felt like a direct life line to the distinctive pageantry of soul music performers through the ages.
The singer, who confessed on Twitter to being full of nerves prior to her performance, received support from her mother, Tina Lawson, and sister, Beyoncé, who were both on hand for the event.
Styled by Jason Rembert and Eric McNeal, Solange wore a coordinated white bra-top and high-waist pants layered with a crystal top and earrings designed by Erickson Beamon. Her intricate hair looks were handled by Chuck Amos and Shani Crowe.
