In a Vevo-hosted live recording of 070 Project’s “Honey,” the group reveals why the buzz around this band has been steadily building over the past year. Northern NJ-based, the collective’s lead members are 070 Shake, Phi, Malick and BeHeard, a group creating a wavy new genre, merging elements of rap, goth/punk and techno.
Shake very much stands out as 070’s most charismatic member, and indeed, under YesJulz management, she signed on with G.O.O.D. Music sometime during the summer and has her own project slated to drop in January 2017.
Much of Shake’s appeal is her deeply soulful vocals and in a live performance of “Honey,” a song about obsessive and literally crazy love that still manages to bop, it all comes together in one very authentic package.
Some individuals sing songs about lost love, but Shake sounds like she’s exorcising genuinely unresolved feelings of pain and loss. She’s raw, vulnerable and a little scary all at the same time, all of which is why her potential at the moment feels sky high.
