Lady Gaga has released a video for “Million Reasons,” a single from her fifth studio album, the country and rock flavored Joanne. Co-written by country singer and songwriter Hillary Lindsey, the song is about being in a difficult love relationship and looking for a reason to stay.
Visually spare, the video flashes between three scenes, showing Gaga crying in a dressing room, playing acoustic guitar against a white backdrop, and lying on the ground in a desert setting where she eventually is rescued by a group of friends.
Reflecting the more down-to-earth approach of the album, Gaga has dialed back on the over-the-top fashion looks she was once known for and has taken a sleeker approach. In “Million Reasons” she wears an Alexander Lewis mauve pantsuit, along with a color-coordinated Harvey Santos cowboy hat and Casadei pumps. More fashion details from the video here.
In speaking on the song in October on the Zach Sang show, Gaga said, “I was sitting with Hillary Lindsay, I remember we were in my house, I was at the piano and she was sitting behind me. And I was just like ‘It’s just like all the men in my life, I tell you, they give me a million reasons to take a hike and I just need one good one to stick around. I just need one,’ and she was like ‘That’s a song.’ And I sat down and I started playing.”
