Remy Ma Takes Shots At Nicki Minaj With ‘Wait A Minute’ Verses

December 27, 2016. 3 Comments

Up and coming Brooklyn rapper Phresher turned a lot of heads this past summer with his infectious single “Wait a Minute,” and the song received another boost when 50 Cent and Remy Ma added their verses to a remix in November.

The song now has an accompanying visual, which includes appearances by Cardi B and Young M.A., who acts as Remy’s hype person when she spits her verses. With the video out and the lyrics coming under closer scrutiny, fans have concluded Remy Ma was taking shots at Nicki Minaj, with whom Remy always had had a less than amiable relationship.

Even if the line “Get rid of those fake breasts,” could be applied to any female entertainer (including Remy), it appears she was laying the foundation to take a direct shot at Minaj with the lyrics “That ghostwriter bout to call her. That lifeline getting shorter.”

Both lines are thought to be a reference to Minaj’s ex Safaree who has claimed he was a ghost writer for Minaj, a charge she repeatedly has dismissed. Safaree also recorded a Minaj and Meek Mill diss track titled “Lifeline.” The lines followed with the lyrics “warn her,” a reference to Biggie Smalls’ song “Warning,” a song Minaj remixed in 2007.

To drive home the Safaree reference, not long after the freestyle was first released, Safaree posted an image of himself, Remy Ma and her husband, Papoose, and described them as “epitome of #relationshipgoals,” seen at the time as shady commentary on Minaj’s sometimes rocky relationship with Mill.

It’s not clear what Remy is mad about, but Minaj currently is viewed as the queen of the category among females so it would make sense that Remy who is near the top of the heap herself would want to to topple Minaj from her throne.

In the meantime, we would like to know where Remy procured that very fierce LV fur trapper hat!

Check out an excerpt below.

Ten years in, Jean-Raymond’s star has only risen. He hangs out with celebrities (Tracee Ellis Ross, Brent Faiyaz), made a cameo on Insecure, and drives flashy cars (a McLaren 720S, an Aston Martin Superleggera, a Porsche GT3 RS). Meanwhile, his brand is nearly nonexistent.

There is no Pyer Moss boutique. The clothing celebrated on the runway was mostly not available to anybody who didn’t have a celebrity stylist to pull it for them, and company insiders complained that quality control was so uneven that at times what was produced was too flawed to be sold. Jean-Raymond sometimes missed deadlines, didn’t always pay bills, started other projects, and alienated allies. He referred to Pyer Moss as an “art project” and seemed reluctant to make practical choices. Among the fashion insiders who had cheered his rise, there has been a growing feeling that he has wasted an opportunity to build something important.

The last straw for many of his early supporters was his couture show in July 2021. Titled “WAT U IZ,” and put on in the U.S. during Paris Couture Week, it was a tribute to the various innovations that Black people have been responsible for, often without credit. The models came down the runway decked out in a jar of peanut butter and a traffic light. A lot of it wasn’t really clothing, much less couture. Even if the professional critics and other members of the fashion press seemed hesitant to publicly express their disappointment, they whispered among each other that he’d lost the plot of his brand.
